Marble-Look Shower with Black Fixtures, Built From the Studs

The space
An enclosure that had been re-caulked into submission. Behind the old surround the framing was damp and the pan had no slope worth the name.
The decision
Back to bare studs, then a properly sloped pan and a continuous membrane over walls and floor, tested overnight with water before a single tile went on. Large-format walls keep grout lines to a minimum; the hexagon floor takes the slope.
The detail
Twenty-four by forty-eight tile has almost no forgiveness — a wall that is out by an eighth shows as a lip you can feel. The studs were sistered and shimmed flat before the backer went up, which is why the glass line and the tile line agree.

Same spot, same phone. The only thing that changed is the work.
